January 5, 2011 Day 5- Eat More Fruits Vegetables

The last few days Ive suggested that you drink water, read food labels, keep a food journal and watch your portions. If youre like me, hopefully you learned some things. You may even be surprised at how fast the calories add up. This is especially the case when you eat certain foods. Think about it, do you eat only 14 chips that equal around 150 calories? I dont and you probably dont either. This can be frustrating because they add up so fast.

Well, heres something that will allow you to eat more for less. Fruits and vegetables are very low in calories and provide many benefits. You can enjoy more fruit and vegetables for less than medium size bag of chips. The fruits can aide with the sweet tooth and vegetables make great side dishes.

Each season provides opportunities to enjoy some great seasonal fruits. This past summer, I tried Rainer cherries and they were soo good! Lately Ive been eating Clementines, they are like small oranges but really sweet. I also love apples in the Fall, I especially love Honey Crisps apples.

I must admit, vegetables arent my favorite but I suggest that anyone does like them, make them your best friends. The only caution I suggest is that you dont drown them sauces or butters, this will add tons of calories. Due to me being picky with vegetables, I do like a few such as corn, peas, beans and carrots and etc. Sweet potatoes and white potatoes make great low calorie sides. I know that when I include vegetables in my meals, I get full faster and feel healthier.

These are just a few suggestions on how to be able to eat enough food throughout the day but save on calories.
