Got Skills For Intervention?

How do you convince a person that they need to go to the doctor or keep their scheduled doctors visit?

My mom goes only once a year unless she is so sick that she can’t walk or move. It’s ridiculous.

In 2008 she was set up to have surgery on her throat/uvula. She wouldn’t attend to herself because Dad was in such a sick condition. Pappy’s illness is gone now and so is he, but she still won’t pursue the doctor’s recommendations.

I don’t pressure her. I do my best to let her know that it wouldn’t bother me or put me out to help her get the medical attention she needs. Then, after I’m sure she knows I’m ready and willing to help her get help, I no longer force the issue.

I am this way about anyone, excluding my minor children, of course.

Mom wants me to see a doctor, too, for a mitral stenosis condition, but I am not willing to go at this time.

I can kind of feel for both sides of the scenario. On one side, we want our loved ones to seek medical attention, on the other side, some of us wish our loved ones would hush it up about our medical needs.

I wish I had the skills for intervention, I knew a person that really needed it….
